Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji (賭博黙示録カイジ Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji) is the first part of the Kaiji manga series.
It was published on February 19, 1996 and ended in October 1999. In 2007, it was adapted into a 26-episode-long anime television series, and in 2009, into a feature film.
It is followed by Tobaku Hakairoku Kaiji.
English Releases
Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji was licensed for English release by Denpa (physical) and Manga Planet (digital) under the title Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji. Denpa's first book was published on December 10, 2019, and the last is scheduled for August 27, 2024. Manga Planet's digital release schedule began on November 18, 2020, and ended on August 18, 2021.
The anime adaptation was licensed by HIDIVE for an English dub that released in 2020.

Trivia
- The second part of the arc after Kaiji leaves the Espoir is often called the "Castle of Despair" which includes all three gambles that were held at the Starside Hotel.
- Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji and Tobaku Datenroku Kaiji: Kazuya-Hen are the only two parts of the manga to receive English translations.
- This is the only part that has a physical English release.
